From The Storm Inside by Sheila Walsh (chapter 7)–
“If I’ve spoken to 2,000 women who received my message warmly but one woman tells me that she expected something a bit deeper – that’s all I hear and the storm of insecurity begins.
You should have spent more time preparing!
You’re just not a good teacher!
Maybe you shouldn’t do this anymore.”
How many times have I felt this way in different situations- my job, school, my kids, my garden?
It’s so easy for one single incident to cause me to think I’m a failure!
Later in the chapter from Sheila Walsh:
“When insecurity raises its ugly head (and it will), we can say, ‘Well, you might not choose me, you might not value me, you might not even want me around,…but God does!’ Remember this verse; try to commit it to memory:
‘Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you.’ (John 15:15-16)”
Sheila’s final words in this chapter are a reminder to us to hear God telling us:
“’Never will I leave you;
Never will I forsake you.’
So we can say with confidence,
‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?’”
